Locally-sourced food is always best but…
big box stores are here to stay and most of us have one located nearby. Since more and more real food is appearing in these warehouses you may want to pay a visit once in a while.
Here’s what we found at BJ’s Wholesale Club:
ORGANIC DRY GOODS
Organic Sumatran coffee beans, organic dried herbs and spices, pine nuts, quinoa and olive oil. Wild-caught canned tuna and sardines packed in olive oil!
FROZEN FOOD
Alaskan Sockeye Salmon (wild-caught) and 4 pound bags of flash-frozen after harvest
organic broccoli, spinach and green peas.
FRESH PRODUCE
Organic salad greens and baby spinach, celery, carrots, onions and potatoes.
Also look for affordable, non-organic avocados, lemons, limes, cabbage, mushrooms, asparagus, kiwi, pineapples and sweet potatoes.
These appear on the “Clean Fifteen” chart so non-organic varieties are generally low in pesticide risk.
